I am fairly certain you have noticed that in metropolitan Chicago, prices at pubs and restaurants have climbed the stairs. Venues displaying a 'one-star' cost logo are pretty much limited to Taco Bell and Wendy's. (Perhaps it is time for the calibration lines to be recalculated.)
But there are reprieves out here. You just have to unearth them.
I direct your attention to a fast casual restaurant in Roselle, in north Du Page County. It is Bulldog Ale House at 394 E. Irving Park Rd.; Roselle, IL. 60172
Bulldog Ale House is a small chain, similar to Draft Picks, or Tap House Grill. The outlet in Roselle has 72 beers on draft, including five brewed for it {likely available elsewhere under another venue's name}. It has price deals seven days a week. I steer your intentness to Thursdays.
This is not a typo. Sixteen-ounce glasses of nearly all drafts are $2. {I did not order any high-ABV beers which would be served in snifters.} For food, chicken tenders are 89¢ each. They are generally $1.39 each. The tenders are filling. I struggled to get through ten of them. Order six-to-eight.
The venue is vast. It could be good for groups, but the din of it would make conversation amongst themselves laborious. It has free wi-fi. It has scores of flat-screen televisions to receive any channel on DirecTV®. I did not observe any 'official' {university | sport team} bar paraphernalia.
The conclusion of my evening's episode was: five pints + ten tenders = $20.46. That's a Portland, Oregon price level evening out.
Some of you may know I prefer to not drive to any beer venue. For this, I have a Metra ten-ride 'A' to 'E' ticket ($64.25). An 'A' to 'E' ticket is also useful to go to Arlington Heights, Northbrook, Deerfield, Highland Park, Highwood, Wheaton, Lisle, Downers Grove, Orland Park, Tinley Park, and Flossmoor.
From the Metra Milwaukee District West Line's Roselle station, it is a .3 mile walk north through its parking lot.
On weekdays, trains back to Chicago Union Station leave Roselle at 9:37 pm and 10:37 pm. If your home destination is further west toward Elgin, they call at 10:27 pm, 11:27 pm, and 1:27 am [+1].
If I was reviewing venues on Yelp (and it did not shadow my review, which it would, since I have not logged on to it since 2011), I would give the Bulldog Ale House in Roselle five stars.
