Can't help you there, but the old Jameson factory tour in Dublin is fun. It isn't active, but they have the old equipment on exhibit and a taste comparison of US, Irish and Scotch Whisk[e]ys.

The Jameson tour in Dublin also offers a few bottles that aren't available in the US, and one or two that are only available at their factory store in Dublin. Sorry, I can't find the names of those right now.

Over a year ago, I would have suggested Green Spot or Yellow Spot. But you can get that in the US now (and @750mL, to boot). I was really looking forward to taking something home with me that you can't get in Chicago but I came up totally empty.

Honestly, you may have better luck at the duty free shop in the airport. Just remember that you go through US customs in Dublin so block off even more time than normal if you want to browse the duty free shop on your way home.

Just bought a bottle of Yellow Spot and like it quite a bit, but you can find it in Chicago. If I were shopping in Dublin for one I believe isn't exported to the US, I'd look for Writers Tears Copper Pot. Note it's cask strength, so a splash of water would be OK with it. Totally copacetic way to burnish your Flann O'Brien street cred, too.

Picked up three bottles of Writers Tears Copper Pot at the duty free shop in the airport. At 25 euro a bottle two of the bottles will make nice Christmas gifts. I also picked up a bottle of Yellow Spot at 46 euro it was quite the bargain.

$90 at Fountainhead Market as of a week or two ago.

Blue14, did you happen to notice a price on Midleton at the duty-free? Might not wait for Bloomsday to make a shopping run to Dublin.

Haven't had many Irish whiskey's, but liked the few I had. All were about 80 proof. I am a Bourbon drinker and prefer high proofs, especially single barrel cask strengths. Didn't really care for this at all, much more Scotch-like than the others that I have tried. Not very smooth for a 12 year old whiskey. A bit rough around the edges, but didn't mind that, just an observation.
