Picked up a bottle of Gale Gand root beer at Fox and Obel the other night. I think there was some discussion of where to get it or whether you could get it at The Cheese Stands Alone on the old board. Anyways, for those who have never had it, check it out.

I expected it to be so, so, as bottled root beer never seems to have the same quality as when it is freshly drawn (Berghoff on tap-some of the best). It was outstanding. The undertones as merchandised on the bottle are cinnamon, vanilla, and ginger. The cinnamon and vanilla really kick the taste buds in gear a bit, and make it a different concoction.

The label had some story about how Gale had a pet dog in London and named it rootie and they came up with this whole recipe etc. I don't know if I buy the whole story, as it seems kind of like the the story about the dude who built EBAY so his girlfriend could trade pez dispensers which was false, and created to give the corporation a warm fuzzy story.

On the other hand if Gale had a dog named rootie, I apologize for my skepticism.

I think I mentioned it on the old board.

I really dislike the root beer. I haven't tasted it in a while, so the formula might have changed, but when I did, it was overwhelmingly vanilla and mint flavored, just like any cheap root beer.

It wasn't the worst root beer I've ever tasted ("Natural Brew" holds that prize), but it wasn't anywhere near the best.

    Hi,

Last week I was at Suzette's Creperie in Wheaton where Gale Gand's root beer was on the menu. I commented to Suzette that I had heard more negative comments than positive on this root beer. Suzette was of the opinion Gale's root beer is like the original A&W root beer.

I may have tasted A&W's original root beer, though I never heard of their formula changin. If someone is aware of the original A&W root beer and tasted Gale's, then is there really a simularity?

    Regards,
    Cathy2
