I love fresh squeezed orange juice. In my never ending hunt for the best fresh squeezed orange juice, my personal favorite is from Sunset Foods in Libertyville. It's the real deal and I only wish I had their juicer in my kitchen. Any one out their care to share their favorite, excluding their own?

Jewel seems to be using the $3.50 64oz fresh OJ as a loss leader!
I've been very happy to let my kids drink all the OJ they want.

They're trying to keep up with Mariano's. Depending on the location they squeeze fresh multiple times a day.

    Mariano's, hands down.

It's actually cheaper than the not-from-concentrate cartons on the shelf.

It's clearly a loss-leader because it takes a lot of Valencia oranges to make a half-gallon. I have a Breville citrus juicer at home and unless I get a really good deal on oranges, it's almost always cheaper to buy Mariano's juice.

While it's probably true that it's a loss-leader, they're likely paying a lot less for the oranges than you are, given the volume in which they use them.

That's a given, but then they can turn around and sell those oranges at a standard profit instead of passing on their savings in the form of discounted OJ. So there's an opportunity cost, likely making it a loss leader.

Yes, they're perishable. That's one of the reasons commercial juice came to be in the first place. What do we do with this fruit we cannot sell as fresh?

The OJ and grapefruit juice sold from the East Bank Club market is really great, some of the best same-day fresh squeezed juice this Florida boy has tried. It's very consistent. Not sure where they get it, or if it's squeezed in house, which might well be the case. EBC is one of those places, like you might see preserved in amber in the parts of LA featured on Curb Your Enthusiasm, where the juice bar didn't just come back -- it never left for the last 30 some years.

Grand Food's fresh OJ is much better than Mariano's IMHO,and since Mariano's opened they dropped their price for a half gallon by $1.

    PS
Grand is connected with DeeJay's in Glencoe, but I've never tried the latter's orange juice.
