Jimmy Jamm Sweet Potato Pies deserve to be known about by the world. This place's careful focus on one humble root vegetable is highlighted deliciously in every slice and spud preparation. If you've only had a sweet wedge to go in its plastic conservatory - I recommend the turtle, have some milk or black coffee handy to cut - you may have missed the playful spirit of the people and place captured in their (limited, rotating) hot offerings onsite, or on their well-tended Facebook site:

http://chicago.seriouseats.com/2013/10/ ... -cafe.htmlThis has been my pocket nomination for the past few years while focusing on other South Side businesses, and I'm happy to ante it up this year. After Old Fashioned Donuts at Authentaco, I think the Jimmy Jamm has every precedent for taking over more of the virtual and real love on any side of the city. Check it out the next time you're at Top Notch or doing another South Side boulevard progressive (it pairs well with just about anything). This is the kind of place where you might just be handed a piping hot bag of sweet potato fries while you're waiting for cheesecake because you look hungry. That just doesn't happen much anywhere else.
