I first discovered Forno Rosso a short time after TV maven Steve Dolinsky did a short piece on it for ABC channel 7. My mother in law had just relocated to a retirement facility that was a short drive away, and we all were interested in seeing if it was as good as Dolinsky said it was.

On our first visit, I discovered that this may be the best thin crust pizza I've had in my entire life! The crust was crisp with light char, it possesed complex yeasty flavors and had just the right amount of chewiness. The toppings, ranging from custom-made sausage to fresh mozzarella were fresh and tasty. And there was plenty more - great salads, the most intensely flavored caponata I've ever had, and Peroni AND Moretti on tap. The space was nice and unpretentious, and the service was good.

So I kept coming back, and every time, I was rewarded with great pizza, and an ownership that took their product seriously. And in the Dunning neighborhood (just south of the intersection of Irving Park and Harlem) it was pretty much alone as a high quality dining resource. So I think the combination of location and quality makes this a classic nomination for GNR status.

And I am not alone; many LTH'ers have made visits in the past 2 years, their comments seem uniformly supportive of the high standards set by Forno Rosso. http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=38569

Great pizza, great people, great service. I strongly second this nomination. For my money, Forno Rosso is turning out some of the best Neapolitan pizza in town. The fact that they are on the northwest side is just icing on the cake for me. I'd make the trek there even if they weren't located near my house. Besides the pizza, the owner takes great pride in sourcing the very best ingredients. In particular, I'm very fond of the burrata that they import direct from Italy once or twice a week.

Forno Rosso for GNR? Yes Yes Yes.

This is no where near my neighborhood, so I won't get there much. But our two visits were great. Fantastic pizza and particularly friendly service. It's nice to have such a high quality product in such a down to earth neighborhoody place. I support this nomination and just wish they'd open a branch on the North Shore.

Have enjoyed Forno Rosso so much that seconding their nomination as a GNR is an honor. All the positive comments above are on point and they deserve this special designation.

Fully support - I'm due for a trip, haven't been for a few months..

As good, or better, than spacca depending on the pie/day.. Point is , they've got the technique nailed!
I love comfortable food, and comfortable restaurants.

This is our local pizza place. I've eaten there many times and had a wonderful meal each time.

I know I'm late on this, but just wanted to chime in an emphatic "yes," as well as a thanks to rfleisch1 for the nomination. I had intended to do it, and I missed the nomination window. So glad they got nominated.

Tom me Forno Rosso has the best Neapolitan style pizza in the Chicago area.
And the owner is not only a very pleasant person but also a good pro who takes his business very seriously.

Forno Rosso is beloved in my house. In addition to the stellar quality of the crust and interesting toppings, and their knowing handling of "full distance" requests, they handle families brilliantly. I can't believe I'm about to type the following phrase, but their Nemo- and Mickey-shaped kids pies (which the various Nella-imprinted places also have) might even be better than the DOC/vera convention - textural interest worth trying.
