Uncle John's 2

2013 was a sad year for fans of Chicago bbq, as Mack Sevier hung up his apron. Uncle John’s, with its own recipe for hot links, and tips done to near perfection was an all star among GNRs. This top tier bbq legacy lives on quite well in Richton Park as I am pleased to nominate Uncle John’s II for the GNR honor. Sometimes the sequel can be as good as the original.

Garry Kennebrew, who apprenticed under Mack and later took over the pit at Barbara Ann’s, before himself moving over to Uncle John’s, and is Mack’s son in law is the proprietor. When Garry isn’t at the aquarium smoker, Derrick, another UJs of 69th street alumni is there. These are the same amazing tips and links that everybody loves, and on occasion they have some very good beef ribs as well.

It will be the same in Richton Park. On my last visit there, the tips and links combo was as good as any I ever had on 69th Street. Yeah, it's a much longer schlep for most of us, but definitely worth the trek.

While it is true that the volume of posts on UJ2 is relatively low, I truly believe that this is a result of location. The South suburbs are almost certainly under-represented in GNRs, and this would be a fine start to help reverse that.

Thanks glennpan for the nomination. I had no idea another Uncle John's had opened up. I visited for the first time over the weekend, and I really enjoyed it. Great BBQ is definitely worth the trip! I support the nomination.

I was proud to have nominated the original Uncle John's seven years ago, and I believe that the Richton Park location picks up right where 69th Street left off. It's a really long schlep for me, but I still consider it a destination spot. I support this nomination wholeheartedly.

I have been to Uncle John's 2 twice and each time it was a similar experience to Uncle John original location (RIP). I was glad to meet up with everyone on Saturday for a meal of tips, hot links and beef ribs. Fresh off the smoker, everything was mighty fine. A fine departure from Uncle John's is a waiting area with a table and chairs, it sure was nice to eat and chat with the staff.

I bought an extra large tip to share with Mom1 and Mom2 for dinner later that evening. Both explained they were not very hungry, then they really dug into the tips. All that was left was some extra sauce, which I will save for another dinner. As they wiped down (or maybe licked) their fingers clean, I was reminded I could bring this by again sometime.

The Moms and I support Uncle John's 2 for a Great Neighborhood Restaurant.
