Anteprima -- Deft, Seasonal and Delicious

Every time I see the Anteprima thread, I read yet another great review; another satisfied customer. I think to myself, “Why isn’t this place a GNR yet?” and I wait for someone else to nominate it. Well….no more. I submit that Anteprima is the epitome of a Great Neighborhood Restaurant and I’d like to see it honored as such.

For me – it is a GNR because Andersonville is my neighborhood. When I feel the need of a dinner out it’s often the first restaurant that comes to my mind and when I have someone in from out of town, the very first place I suggest for dinner is Anteprima. I’ve been many times and never in the years that it’s been a part of my neighborhood have I ever been disappointed in it. I might add, every single person I’ve brought there – and there have been many – has always gone back on their own to enjoy another great meal.

This sparkling gem on the north side serves delicious, well-prepared, often locally sourced, and creative Italian food which also doesn’t weigh heavily in your tummy. Their menu changes seasonally and while always including certain “usual suspects” on their repertoire, they feature delightful weekly specials that showcase their crack staff’s talents. They know how to do what the Italians know how to do better than almost any other culture – they honor the ingredients and let them sing. It’s in a lovely, spare, but attractive space and in the summer, their patio creates a wonderful mood for a summer meal.

Every meal I’ve had there has been memorable – I’m still able to taste a risotto with cherry tomatoes and basil I had last summer. Every time I’ve gone I’ve had excellent service and a good meal – what more can you ask out of life? It’s also not outrageously expensive – especially if you take advantage of their “create a prix fixe” menu option. I think Anteprima is one of the best Italian restaurants in a town filled with Italian restaurants.
