Yesterday, went to Maxwell St. and picked up a case of blackberries (twelve six-ounce containers) for $6.00 (could have gotten two cases for $10, but you have to draw the line somewhere). Ate them yesterday and today, and they're very good, not at all on the cusp of over-ripe, really just right.

There's no telling, of course, whether the berries (which were sold in the space right next to the White Palace at Roosevelt and Canal) will be there next weekend, but the prices on fruit in general seem quite good as is the quality.

The reason for the great deal, of course, is that the location is not great: unless you find a super parking spot (unlikely) you have to walk into the market probably one half-mile, so if you're planning to pick up some fruit bargains, I'd recommend bringing a wagon or a large, healthy male (me, I like to go with my daughter's 22-year-old boyfriend; he huffed out a case of pineapples for me last time we were there).
