I'm looking for people's favorite recommendations for store bought slasa. When I don't have the time or inclination to make it myself, I'd like to have some good go to alternatives. Does anyone have a recommendation for some homemade salsa at a mexican market?

Try Lindo Michoacan at Lawrence and Kedzie.Saturdays are especially good for pre made items. Carnitas, chickens, homemade tortillas, salsas etc.

I like the smoother non chunky salsa and El Famous Burrito on Clark St in Rogers Park (a block N of Lunt) has my favorite salsa. It is a fresh salsa and I buy it in large batches. I use it in cooking all the time, it is a crucial ingredient in my guacamole and my marinated Mexican chicken.

The Berwyn Fruit Market, at Ogden and Harlem, makes an excellent salsa verde. I suspect they make other great homemade salsas, as well.

You might call Mimi at Sweet Occasions to see if she has any in stock. She makes a medium and a hot -- the medium is sometimes what many commercial brands consider hot, and there have been batches of hot that I simply was unable to handle. But it's very, very good.

Several varieties of Frontera salsas are available to many super markets; I'm particularly fond of the medium Tomatillo Salsa.
