The spouse and I are going to be on the Olympic Peninsula in late July and need some food tips. The last time I was in Washington, I ate at the Space Needle (yuck) and went to a Pink Floyd laser light show so ... it has been quite a few years.

Anyway, tips on dining in Port Angeles, Sequim (sp?), La Push, anyplace tourists are likely to go, would be appreciated.

I think your best best for good food in that area will be in Port Townsend... I wish I could be more specific, but to be honest I've never had a meal that was particularly memorable on the peninsula. However, the Sunny Farms Country Store in Sequim makes a fun stop - they've got local produce and I believe some nice cheeses ...if you need any recs for Seattle, I can give you more help!

As a person who likes Pappadeaux's, maybe I am not the one to make a recommendation on seafood (g).

The seafood place that came highly recommended by all the locals is the Three Crabs in Sequim (Three Crabs Rd (360) 683-6727). Generally, the locals recommend the place for the Dungeness Crab. However, the local specialty is the geoduck (pronounced gooey-duck), a very large oyster harvested from the local waters.

Both Sequim and Port Townsend have local farmer's market. In that area, you will find a lot of great soft fruit (grapes, cherries, plums, etc.).

    Hope that helps.

I will agree that geoducks shouldn't be missed while you are in the area, but they are actually clams, not oysters. I lived on the Olympic Penninsula in the late 60's /early 70's, but at that time there wasn't much going on out there so I can't be of much help recommending any specific places. When I lived there, Port Townsand wasn't much more than a real estate office. Port Angeles was the only "major" town. I lived near Sequim and all that was there was a little diner that served some pretty good oyster stew. It's come a long way since then. I'm sure I wouldn't even recognize the place now.

When I was in Port Angeles in '95 there was an out of sight family Mexican place, which I believe was called The Armadillo. About five blocks up the hill from the water a few doors down from a bike shop. Sorry I don't have any more to go on!
