Have to go to Sylmar for about 2 weeks for work (leaving next Tues 10/24).
I probably won't have a whole lot of time but is there anything exciting nearby I could hit? I may be able to sneak out Sunday/Monday (perhaps even Tuesday) evenings for a few hours but not a full night.

    So...Sylmar...anything?

It sounds like an ill-marketed pharmaceutical. The food's gotta be better than that, though. Right?

I just checked on chowhound for you, and all of the posts are at least five years old. You might post over at the LA board on Chowhound though. Somebody did mention that there were some taco food trucks that were worth hitting. It sounds like there are tons of Mexican restaurants in the area

Good luck! My sister lived in Sylmar for nearly 20 years. Nothing good to report. [OTOH, my youngest sister has lived in PHX/Mesa for years. Yummm! Even had din one night with Dom, which was a delight! One out of two sisters ain't bad, eh?!]

    Good luck!

Sooo, you like wine and are looking for something good to read? Maybe *this* will do the trick! :)
