Parker, be sure to check out County Line Barbeque. Good brisket and links. If its burgers you crave, I'm quite a fan of What a Burger, the southwest chain.

I would have posted this earlier but when I tried, the software would not let me.

I worked in Cuidad Juarez quite frequently ten years ago. Basically, I stayed in El Paso and crossed the border each morning to head to work.

The best place in the area is Cattleman's Steakhouse at Indian Wells Ranch which is about 35 miles east of El Paso.

Take I-10 east to exit 49, turn left and travel about five miles into the desert and you're there! Open daily for dinner and lunch and dinner on Sundays.

Besides great steaks, they also allow you to wander through the ranch and they have a number of great animal exhibits. The last time I was there, I saw a pack of coyotes as well as some other animals.

Another good place is the State Line BBQ which is part of the County Line BBQ chain. (referred to by the previous poster.)

That would be State Line BBQ, unless you mean the related outfit near Austin... although I see they've opened a bunch of other locations, including several out of the state. Here's the web page.

I tend to think that Texas BBQ is boring, but there are those who like it a lot. If you go, eat a sausage for me.

Otherwise, it's been too long since I've been in El Paso to make recommendations, except that you should cross into Juarez, and eat cheap and touristy at least once.

Sounds like the State Line BBQ is the place. Thanks.
jlawrence: i am not looking for accomodations--I live in Las Cruces and was searching for something not here in the city.
Anyone know a good seafood/oyster bar in El Paso?
