I'm taking a trip to norther Michigan later this week to go to a wedding in Gaylord. While we are there, we're going to take a day trip to Macinac Island and then stop in the Saugatuk and Holland areas for a few days on the way back. I'm looking for some good chow recomendations in any of these areas. Anyone??? :?:

An ok Italian place in Holland MI--most probably the best pick in the area. Charming and off beat, too.

Thanks Mike. We're heading in a slightly different direction than your posts, but I will be sure to take lots of pictures and expand the Northern Michigan knowledge base during my trip.

    Here's the Saugatuk site:

Haven't been there in a couple of years so I can't really comment much on the restaurants except that you can get a pretty decent burger and beer at the Butler. The Italian restaurant downtown was pretty good (can't remember the name). Some of the other places like The Boathouse were pretty average.

Great town for spending the afternoon walking around.

I spent 4 days in Saugatuck last year and found very little food of note. The only things that I remember enjoying were a big basket of fried smelts at milkshake at the soad fountain. Everything else was a major disappointment.
