I was there in January 04. The best guide books for us were Time Out. Other than that, we just used a lot of maps, and went where things looked good, because Shanghai is an amazing place to walk around. Each area will lead to a new thing to explore. The Bund is more expensive in terms of eating, but still not bad at all compared to most major cities. I have to say my favorite restaurant was called the "Purple Grape" and it's in the European-architecture area. I wish I had more specifics for you as to where it was. I'm sure your concierge would be able to tell you. I still daydream about their eggplant with garlic sauce. 3 of us ate 4 dishes and had beer and I think it was about 10 bucks!
