Shorty lives in Kildeer which is nothing like living in the city and definitely could understand the concern for avoiding sketchy areas. You live in Chicago, yes? Then GR has no sketchy areas. Depending on what you like there are several newish places on and around Bridge st. West of the Grand River. Really the down town area has a lot of interesting offerings.
