Over the course of two trips I was able to snag House of Homemade Sausage, Gloriosos, and and Usinger's, which I preferred in that order. House of Homemade Sausage's cheddar brat was the highlight.

If going to the House of Homemade Sausage for Bratwurst, call ahead.
We arrived yesterday at 12:20pm, they had garlic and chicken brats, space for regular brats, beer and two other types were vacant.
Asked for bratwurst and was queried, "garlic or chicken?"
"No. Bratwurst"
"Come back later this aternoon."
Not in the travel plan.
Small place, not much selection of fresh anything, only fresh polish and breakfast sauage or smoked, few whole summer type and a few snack type links hanging up.
We didn't purchase anything.-Richard

Saw this article, and remembered all the love that was shown to European Homemade Sausage Shop before it closed for good.

Current owner worked for a while with his uncle Frank the sausage maker. I would hope that some of the knowledge was passed and it might be worth checking into. My search shows only one mention of Bernie's Fine Meats, and Da Beef's post is more historical than review of its products.

The Vanguard Bar in Milwaukee has become a well know sausage emporium. I've never been there, but have read the reviews. Any one tried this place?

One version of The Milwaukee Merengue* involves lunch-and-lingering at The Vanguard followed by a stop up the street at Honeypie (https://www.honeypiecafe.com ) for dessert.

The last time we did this was after picking up peaches in Oak Creek and the detour on the way home was well worth the drive. At The Vanguard, we had a THAI BREAKER and a JAMAICAN LAMB CURRYWURST. Both were terrific, adding to our belief that “if it looks good on the menu, you will probably enjoy it”. If this place were in Chicago, it would be a GNR.

Here’s a question that might create a vicious LTH-debate: Is the street pronounced “kin-uh-KIN-ik” or is it “kuh-NIK-kuh-NIK”? Great mind wants to know.

*Sometimes referred to a Two-fer on LTH, but confined to Milwaukee. Like the Farwell Street two-step of lunch at The Comet Café, followed by pizza at Zaffiro’s.

I lived in Milwaukee for five-ish years and only on the Eastside but the second one is right. You sometimes hear 'KK,' too.

As someone who's lived in Milwaukee county for 92% of my life and currently lives a half block away from the street in question, I'll cosign this. You never hear it pronounced the first way by locals.
