Title pretty much says it all. Getting in the car in a couple hours to see my brother in Milwaukee for dinner, looking for great old school German - so KR or Mader,s or am I missing something? We want the circuses as well as the bread so atmosphere plays into the decision...

There was just a post about KR mentioning that there was a new owner and the menu had changed. I don't remember the exact details and I'm not in a position to search for the post right now, but you might want to seek it out before making your decision.

    ETA Here's the thread.

Ended up at Karl Ratzsch. My brother and I split the duck breast, the crackling pork shank, and the sauerbraten. The shank was the strongest dish and very good with crispy, salty skin and nice succulent, sticky pockets of pork fat. Unfortunately I can't recommend the sauerbraten, it's just not very good.

All in all not a bad dinner but I would have preferred a more traditional approach; Mader's next time...
