We're organizing a Mother's Day meal in the vicinity of West Bend, Wis. Google reveals some high-end spots, but the family would be shocked at spending over $20 for entrees. Any cuisine is fine. We're probably looking at an early dinner though it could become brunch if there's something good. Any festive but cheap restaurants nearby?

Sorry I am late for this, but Timmer's brunch would have been good. There are a couple of other places on/by Big Cedar Lake as well.

And for the future, drop into Ries' sausage/deli. I always stop in for dog bones when in the area http://www.sausageplusspirits.com/ (also - their old name) http://www.kewaskumfrozenfoods.com/

We ended up lunching at a place called Riverside Brewery. Very attractive inside, with old West Bend photos on the wall. The food was fine -- nothing special, but my roast chicken special was crisp and moist, and the others enjoyed their sandwiches. My mother-in-law, who had been there before, commented favorably on their corned beef, but no one ordered that on Sunday. I had a bite of a Cuban sandwich that seemed decent, if not up to Miami standards.

Nobody tried the beer, so I can't comment on that, although I notice they offer flights. I had the house-made orange cream soda and found it too heavy on the vanilla with less orange character than I prefer. Service was a little slow and somewhat harried; our waiter was new and had to keep going back to the kitchen to ask questions.

Prices weren't cheap, but reasonable enough.

Living in West Bend helped me become a better home cook! :P

One of the best farmers markets I've been to though. Was 5 min from my house-that I miss.
