    Yes!

Take Sheridan Road south into Zion. Just north of the south entrance into Illinois Beach State Park on the west side is Captain Porky's.

If you like fried shrimp, then order the jumbo which is weighed then breaded. If you order the cheaper shrimp, they are commercially breaded. JoelF recently had smoked pork shoulder and fried goat cheese, which came from Dino's goat. The salads and breads are made fresh in the store.

    Do go and report back!

Even the smaller shrimp are quite good -- had some on Saturday along with another batch of the fried goat cheese (before you start praying for my arteries, they were shared, and supplied with a complimentary tomato salad). Most flavorful shrimp I've had since a trip to Belize, believe it or not. Hard to fathom that those were commercially breaded.

Their menu is extensive, including fried gator nuggets (which I asked, and are not from his own gators, unlike the goat cheese  )

In downtown Zion on Sheridan, Whey Chai is a pretty good 'ordinary' chinese place, and a great value. I haven't eaten at too many other places, subsisting on a quickie fast food bite when I go hiking along the beach. There's another place on the east side of the road just north of Captain Porky's that advertises frozen custard and tacos... just that combo should have been enough to keep me away... now I'm sadder but wiser.

Hmm. Must try the shrimp the next time, then - didnt last time, went with the
rec'd shoulder sandwich (which was decent but not great IMHO - a very
good price and a whole lot of food, but the sauce was only OK and the
bun was completely destroyed within a minute, ate the whole thing with
a plastic fork in the end). The fried goat cheese that accompanied was
good, but will rememebr to take the earlier rec and ask for some lemon the
next time, probably. Too much food in the end - and the fried goat cheese
isnt quite as good when it gets cold (eaten in bits and pieces while driving
the next 45 minutes or so). He did tell me it was from his own goat,
    however.

Ah, so I didnt miss out on anything, then? Saw this and intended to stop,
due to a love of frozen custard. But as mentioned above the food was too
much, so couldnt and didnt - wondered if I had missed a great frozen
custard (especially a problem because the north burbs in general have
almost no frozen custard of any sort anyway).
