    Folks,

We moved to Whitewater WI last year, and have been looking for something to eat ever since.

Debbie and I today were sooo hungry for Thai food that--since we were going to be there in town anyway--we decided to throw caution to the winds and go to Janesville's only Thai restaurant, the Thai Kitchen at 802 Center.

Boy, were we surprized! My expectations were below zero, and the place hit a home run! It's actually Cambodian, not Thai, with the expected shifts. Had the crispy-fried whole tilapia, in a wonderful cocoanutty sauce. The crispy skin was spicy and tasty and crunchy. Debbie had a red-curry beef, in a deeply-flavored rich sauce the likes of which I'd never tasted before. Finally figured out that it was from the kafir lime leaves. It was just delicious.

We started with a tom yam soup: great broth, lots of fire *lots of chopped seranno* no galangal, which was a switch, lots of cilantro, shrimp and straw mushrooms.

The young server's mom does the cooking: she came out of the kitchen when we were leaving, all smiles at finding a couple of folks raving about her food.

The daughter says that we'll really enjoy the Cambodian equivalent of pho when we're there next. Yee-hah!

Debbie's on the phone even as we speak, telling her mom in NYC the great news: "we've found a REAL Thai restaurant, with great food!"

Can't tell you how pleased/relieved we are...

My eternal tnx to the gods of food!
