Anyone have suggestions for decent food in Peoria? Near downtown preferable.

    Hey Giallo,

This past summer, I played a gig in Peoria at Jonah's 2601 Oyster Bar. In between sets, the staff thoughtfully laid out some of the evening's specials - some gumbo, beans and rice, chowder, and bbq shrimp. Everything was excellent - fresh and done with a light, experienced hand in the kitchen. I tried the fish cakes and some more shrimp, and they were both good, too. Jonah's is a classy place, nice service and pretty solid seafood/southern style cuisine. Give em a shot. It's right across the river in East Peoria.

Sorry to respond so late. Peoria has long been a national test market so they get outlets of chains before they go national, not a lot of indies but some are:

Lariat, a classic steakhouse at 2232 W. Glen

Fish House at 4919 N. University

    Vonachen's Old Place at 5934 N. Knoxville

Some of the old standby's like Jumer's have changed hands so I have no idea what they are like now. As far as being near downtown, Peoria isn't a very big town, nothing is too far. Downtown area has Joe's Crab Shack and the like along the river.
