I went to Kansas City for a quick business trip and managed to hit a couple of my favorite BBQ "palaces" while I was there. First stop, Lil' Jakes Eat it an Beat It, which is a true BBQ shack located in the heart of Downtown KCMO. It would be as if someone moved Lems to the corner of State & Adams
Actually, the place is technically named Danny Edward's BBQ (Danny is Lil' Jake's son), but I have yet to meed anyone from KC who actually calls this plcae Danny Edwards'. Here's a picture of the original sign when it was officially Lil' Jake's. You can see that not much has changed.
I got my usual orger of Burnt Ends. $7.95 including a side dish and a drink.
Then it was on to LC's. LC's is another shack that is not very well known even among KC natives. It's a little tough to find, but it's worth a visit!

I had both the brisket (which I brought home to Chicago for dinner last night) and the Burnt Ends.
LC's burnt ends are much chunkier then Lil' Jakes and are similar to the ones served at Arthur Bryant's and elsewhere in Kansas City. The thing that sets Lil' Jakes Burnt Ends apart is that they are trimmed so that they are less chunky and more "Burnt". I perfer that, although the LC's ends were mighty tastey as well.
