Blindsided by WillG after our lunch at 7 Spices, I need to come up with a bonus meal for this month. The LTHNLG last paid a visit to Monica's in Prospect Heights just over eight years ago - viewtopic.php?p=428315 . Definitely time to revisit this gem. Please join us on the 16th. As always, bring a friend.

Traditionally, we dine at 12:30 as to avoid the noon rush at most joints. If you're definitely still in the area that week, I can check with the Minions to see if we can move it up to noon.

12:30 would be great! I have some flexibility.

They appear to be related businesses, I never went to Monica's in Mundelein. If you have, what did you think?

I'm sure Jose (the owner, his daughter is Monica) puts as much care into both. Love this place, except for their aversion to ice water (they bring you styrofoam cups from the drinks cooler)

I’ve been to the Mundelein one several times. Can’t comment on how authentic it is. But I like it. Don’t know about the ice water thing, I usually get Horchata.

Well, the no ice water thing definitely seems authentic.

At this time, at least for me, the link to this thread from either the home page or the events page is broken, ending at http://www.lthforum.com/www.lthforum.co ... 19&t=44622
Oops! That page can’t be found.
It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try a search?

I had to go to site search and search for "lth north lunch group" to find this thread, which was at viewtopic.php?f=19&t=44622&p=536285&hilit=lth+north+lunch+group#p536285

hmmm, I didn't notice at first that the broken link has "www.lthforum.com" in it twice, clearly the problem, but I don't know why it puts it there. I will try to find where to report this, must be a feedback or bug reporting link somewhere.

    I'll be there mañana.

Much like dd, when I tried to click on the pic on the right side of the page under "Upcoming LTH Events" it went nowhere. I had to go back to "Events Calendar" to find this thread.

I would have thought that our esteemed coordinator would have had this glitch fixed by now. Perhaps he's not as "all powerful" as he would have us believe.

    What would be to order?

My research has come up with El Pastor and some kind of spicy cheesesteak?

    Are they still making pizza?

My research could be faulty or dated. :(

I've never had the pizza, but it sits and spins in a glass box, does not look appealing.
    The cecina is always outstanding.
The tacos al pastor does not come off a trompo, but it's pretty good.
The ceviche tostada is excellent (although not as stupidly cheap as it used to be)
They make some beautiful michelada shrimp cocktails, which I'd adore if it weren't for the beer
It's one of our favorite restaurants, we've never been disappointed. Always a challenge for me to winnow it down, but I'm likely to go for a burrito or a torta today, maybe a few tacos instead?

Well. That was a good lunch! A few of the things I wanted to try were very good!

Starting off, when I heard they also made pizza I knew we had to try a Mexican pizza. Chorizo, Steak and Jalapeños in addition to the regular pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese. I did briefly entertain the idea of going with the Chihuahua cheese but refrained.

    E616FA46-26C2-4003-B2CB-E6422EFA814D.jpeg

Ordered it on the way so we could sample it as an appetizer.

Also high on my list were the Tacos; Al Pastor and the Arrieros aka "Philly Steak Spicy Taco". I rounded out the taco trio with Carne al Carbon.

Excellent, tender and flavorful meat. I never made it to the al Carbon but will later.

The table salsa wasn't too hot, had a nice chili powder flavor, chips fresh and the refried beans, excellent. Bottled hot sauces were mild as well. Just enough kick.

After having some great Mexican lately it was fun to have another great meal! Thanks for hosting and it was great to break bread with you all.

Boo! No chicken soup. :( :)
