Chuck's Mardi Gras Bash

While dining in Chuck's this evening, I found a flyer promoting Chuck's Mardi Gras bash on Fat Tuesday, February 20th. It's sponsored by Abita Beer and will be held at Burbank Manor, 6345 W. 79th Street, Burbank. The bash will consist of an all you can eat five course buffet, cash bar featuring Abita beer, Hurricanes, mixed drinks and wine, and live entertainment. The cost is $35 per person. Tables will be reserved for groups of 10 and those tickets must be purchased together. There is also a chance to win dinner for 10 cooked by Chuck at your home with ticket purchase.

The back of the flyer shows an extensive menu. If anyone is interested, you can purchase tickets at Chuck's or call (708) 229-8700. Advance ticket purchase is recommended. Food/buffet will be served from 6 - 9 and entertainment will be from 7 - 10:30.

I reserved my table of 10 ($350) at the back, away from the band. you can pick front (band), middle or back of the hall.

Okay, this looks like an event for which it'll be worth picking up a table-full (or more?) of reservations, so I'll get the ball and the bon temps rolling by offering to coordinate with Chuck's for additional (e.g., to LTHer UniAddict) LTH presence.

I checked with Jack--one of the managers--who assured me that (1) there are whole tables still available, and (2) they can handle up to 500 people without sacrificing quality. I asked him about that second item multiple times, as I wanted to check for confidence that an event of such potentially large size would be up to Chuck's high standards.

My cousin and I are going to be the only LTH'ers at my table. He is more active here than I (he is "binko"). The rest of my guests are immediate friends who are foodies like myself. But I wouldn't miss this for the world.

The restaurant will be closed and they will be using the kitchen of Burbank Manor (site of the party). It sounds like they are going to be working very hard and have their entire staff on hand for the event.

Did you you get a table for 10? Sounds like a very good time and Ellen and I would like to go. If you did not reserve a table for 10 then I will call Chuck and reserve, I'm guessing there will be ten LTHers between now and Feb 20 interested.

We were at Chuck's last night for dinner and we heard several diners ordering their tickets at that time -- Chuck has some of the Mardi Gras specials on his menu this week, but the total package looks like a great value for the money.

It would be a shame to miss this event!

Our tables are to be situated in the "middle" area, intended to be not too close to the band and not too far from the serving tables.

Chuck tells me their sales are into the high 300's, so I encourage anyone who's interested to hop on the bandwagon soon-ish.

UPDATE: As of Tuesday, Jan. 30th at 2:20 pm, my purchase of our second table brings the Bash to 99% sold. There are only 5 tickets left out of 500, and Jack at Chuck's tells me they aren't planning to enlarge this thing any further. So it seems like I got the last full table available. (As a final bit of effort at due diligence, I again asked Jack if Chuck's was confident that it could handle an event of this size, maintaining their quality level. He said they were.)

UPDATE: As of Wednesday, Feb 14tth, the hall is officially sold out.

I think it'll be fun!

Besides a spot for yourself, Dave, there are still two openings available.

Since tickets have to be presented at the door to enter, PM me with your mailing address and I'll mail them to you (I'm told the foyer at the hall is relatively small, so trying to meet you at the door with your tix seems impractical, given that around five hundred party-ers will be converging there, too.) It'll be ok if you want to wait until the 20th to reimburse me.

Once you arrive and present a ticket, you might try looking for our crewe, who undoubtably will be sporting such singularly festive regalia as LTHForum coffee mug earrings, wall clock eyepatches, standing ribroast sponge-hat crowns, brown-and-black-diamond-encrusted tweezers (arrayed with Mothers of Dentition floss), etc., but they all might be disguised under massed layers of Mardi Gras beads, so I instead suggest just asking the ticket-takers for directions to the "LTHForum / Matt LaSaine" tables. They should be located somewhere in the middle area.

What I do have a problem with, is the PM function: It's 11:54pm and, looking in my Outbox, I see two messages languishing there which should have been sent out and delivered long ago. The most recent is a reply PM to you that I sent at 9:53 2 hours ago.

The older one is a PM to GreenFish that I sent at 3:48 this afternoon. It's been sitting there over eight hours!! What's the deal here, Admins?

So, anyway, there now remains a single seat available at the second table for anyone else who'd like to join us.

Matt, I'm not the admin, but I believe if you still have messages in your outbox, what that means is that the messages were not picked up by the recipient. This is not, to the best of my knowledge, a system failure or problem.

Hmmm, I understand what you mean, David, although I find that method counterintuitive to what I had I expected, i.e., that once I submitted a PM, it would be quickly--if not immediately--plucked from my Outbox and deposited into the recipient's Inbox (with a copy archived in my Sentbox.)

Think about it another way: it allows you to also retrieve your message before it was collected in case you changed your mind. You also know whether or not your message was indeed collected.

Or think of it this way: if you send a PM to a person, it goes into their LTH mailbox and they're sent an email alert that they have a message. If they haven't picked up your message, that means that they either have not checked their email (in which case, an email would have been no better a way to communciate) or have not chosen to read your message (which they could also choose not to do with an email). So, in effect, it works pretty much like email, and it's important to remember that it's a PM not an IM (which would be "instant").

You will get the e-mail alert for a PM only if you selected to be contacted in your profile. I don't do this, though I do have a pop-up alert me when I access LTH that I have messages.

I have e-mails in my outbox that are months old to advise some information to people who rarely access LTH.

Thanks, David and Cathy, for the guidance on some of the finer points of PM technology. I imagine I'm not the only one around "here" who might have had that misconception of how it worked. Now, back to my regularly-scheduled fixation: Fat Tuesday...

UPDATE: As of Thursday, Feb. 15th, all twenty tickets for the two LTH tables have been claimed. See here for names and numbers of places.

Our two tables should be together somewhere in the middle area. Being reserved for us, they also should have signs identifying them as LTHForum (and/or possibly LaSaine, i.e., my last name ) Just look for a sign starting with an "L" and sit down...might be an opportunity to make some new friends!! --No, seriously (more or less,) I'm sure we'll manage to find each other amongst the teeming pools of hungry revellers. Convivial camaraderie and cavernous appetites should be the order of the day.

For what it's worth, I understand that Chuck has intentions of annual renditions of this Fat Tuesday event, so maybe next year.... Also, I've heard that there's the possibility of Chuck's doing a summer event, too, which would be something to be looking for, as well.

A logistical note for those attending the Bash:

Per a certain ebon-garbed namesake-of-a-sausage who recently spoke with Chuck, he has strongly suggested carpooling in order to maximize use of the 150-or-so prime parking spots (though there are sufficient additional spots within about a block of Burbank Manor at 6345 W. 79th St. in Burbank, IL 60459 [click here to get a map.])

Makes sense to me; I'll be looking to share a ride, and encourage others to do so, as well.

I never looked in the events calender until my post for Fat Tuesday at The Maple Tree moved from Chicago to here. I completely missed the goings on at Chucks. I ate there about 2 months ago and only saw a sad looking flyer for Mardi Gras. I guess he changed it. Hope everyone has a good time. Think of me at The Maple Tree... alone. Just kidding. Can't wait to hear the reviews.

If anyone else is coming from Naperville way, I would be happy to ride or drive. Though I am not sure how late I will stay to laissez les bon temps rouler. My route is probably going to be Boughton to Lemont to I55 to LaGrange to 79th and then east, so I would be happy to pick up anyone reasonably on or near that route.

When are people planning to arrive? Just curious, I will probably be there around 630 unless there is a good reason to arrive earlier or later.
