For those of you who use Flickr.com to store and organize your photos, I created a Flickr group for LTHForum.com. This is really just an experiment to see if it catches on. Let me know what you think.

Flickr Groups are used for pooling of photos into what is essentially a group album. This isn't mutually exclusive to posting photos on LTHForum, but it gives you another interesting way to collect, organize and browse through photos. I actually hope it will encourage people to post and share more photos.

With Flickr groups, you just join the group from the group page, and then you can select which of your photos get added to the group. (There is a "Send to group" button on the top of each photo's page). I've seeded the group with a couple photos. More coming soon.

The group's page is located at:

    Best,
    Michael

For those of you who once had me as a flickr contact, I've scrapped my old account and recreated it, sorry. I am now at http://www.flickr.com/photos/mmchicago/

    Michael,

Maybe you can answer a flickr question I have not found on their website. I began using flickr as a non-paying user, then paid when I was approaching 200 photos. Part of the perks of a paid subscriber is having a personalized URL like your mmchicago. If I adopted a personalized URL, will all my existing photos have a new URL?

I have avoided personalizing my URL solely because I am not thrilled to have new addresses for my existing photos. It would be a grandiose headache to editing posts to reinstall my photos.

    Thanks!
    Regards,
    Cathy2

    Hi Cathy,

The personalized URL is only an entry point to your account, making it easier for you to give out your flickr "home page" to other people. Everything within your account remains the same. (I think you can do the personalized URL as a non-paying user, since I did it in the past).

For me, the biggest perks of being a paid flickr user are unlimited storage of hi-rez files and the ability to create unlimited photosets.

    Best,
    Michael

Your photos each have a unique URL of scrambled letters-- actually a different unique URL for each size. What shows your user name is your personal page, and any sets you create. So your links here to photos won't be affected by the switch.

Also, if you join the group and your flickr name is different than your LTHForum name, it might be helpful if you put your LTHForum name in your profile description. See my profile for an example:

    The LTHForum flickr group is off to a hot start with 6 members and 46 photos. You don't have to join the group to enjoy the page;
    http://flickr.com/groups/lthforum/

Also, if you're using a RSS feed tool to read blogs and such, you can add the feed of the LTHForum flickr group to your list of feeds and get automatically notified when new photos are added.

(If you are not using a feed reader, you should. Bloglines.com is my weapon of choice.)

I just added a few pix - I think most of them have already been posted various places on LTH.

FWIW, I'm in as ramonpublius. You can find some interesting pics in the "Food Porn" group also.

    Hi,

I joined the flickr LTHforum group.

I have several hundred on flickr, would you want them all or selectively? What discernment should be made on pictures posted?

I already had a set of my best food photos, which has been most of my contribution so far, so yes, I'd say some level of selectivity.
