I just got back from a nice bike ride and lunch at Jim's Original Maxwell Street, and thought that there has to be others who would be interested in getting together for a ride and lunch.

I ride my bike to work 3-5 times a week in the summer. I try and visit places for lunch on my bike that I don't usually get to, like today at Jim's. If anyone else would be interested in joining me, I would love to find out about new and different places. Last summer I rode to Manny's, Al's on Taylor, Tecatilan on Chicago, just to name a few.

My thought is to do this one or two times a month. Pick a restaurant, (taquerias, hot dog stands, sandwich shops, etc.) that aren't too far a ride from the Loop, pick a time and meet. It is a nice way to get exercise, expand your Loop lunch options and try places that you always wanted to or new ones and meet with people from this board.

The ride, plus lunch should be just a little over an hour.

If you are interested just let me know by responding with posts. I will post again on the topic with a location for anyone that maybe interested. Non-bike riders are of course welcome, getting there will be the trick. Have a good weekend.

I hope to do the first of these lunches this Friday, June 23. Plan is to ride bikes to a place outside the Loop for a lunch. Others are welcome to join. To get this idea off to a good start, let's plan on lunch at Bari's Foods, 1120 W. Grand Ave. That is a nice ride from the Loop, but not too far.

We can meet at Bari's or ride there together. Let's say leave Daley Center, bike rack, corner of Clark and Washington at 12:30 pm and lunch at Bari's around 12:45 or so.

See you on Friday. Weather permitting.

I was just out on Daley Plaza and of course the bike rack is not there. I will meet anyone interested in biking to Bari Foods on June 23, at the stairwell at the corner of Clark and Washington. Meet at 12:30, lunch around 12:45 or so.

I'll meet you there - and bike from my office (since I work outside the loop already :)

I'll PM you earlier in the day if I am not going for some reason.

Jay@HG and I biked over to Bari for lunch today. It was a breezy ride, but very fruitful. We both had the Italian sub. Very good and well priced at $4 for a 9 inch sandwich. Jay took a photo, not sure if he'll post it, but Bari has been well vetted on these boards no need to go over the details again.

We are planning to do this again on July 7, 2006. Anyone is of course welcome. I will post a new topic next week as a reminder/invitation. Jay has suggested Busy Burger on Taylor Street, so that looks to be the choice.

Seems like it was a perfect day for a ride. I wish I were able to make it.

On the contrary. In my mind (and the minds of many others around here), every trip to an eatery is a unique and new experience. The more we hear about places (especially great places like Bari), the better.

    Best,

The sandwich was great, so was the Milano Salami. I think the bread could be a little softer, but it tasted good over all.
