The Evanston Lunch Group will begin our 2020 season in chilly January with Jamaican cuisine. Jerk Chicken, Kingfish, and the like at Kingston Grill (not Kingston Mines!)

Laura Shatkin describes Kingston Grill in the Chicago Reader:

The succulent jerk chicken here comes in a sandwich, as wings, in a salad, or as an entree in a quarter-, half-, or whole-bird portion. Kingston Grill (formerly Jazmyn's Chicken) also serves other traditional dishes like slow-cooked oxtail scented with thyme and spices, beef stew, and curried chicken. The daily specials include curried goat, panfried kingfish, and browned cow's feet in a garlic, onion, and tomato sauce. All entrees come with either white rice or a mixture of coconut-milk-sweetened rice and peas, but you can also opt for sides like fried plantains, veggie patties, and cabbage slaw.

Join us on Tuesday January 7th at 12:30.

Toast, as every breakfaster knows, isn't really about the quality of the bread or how it's sliced or even the toaster. For man cannot live by toast alone. It's all about the butter. -- Adam Gopnik

Nice! Same day as the LTH North Lunch Group's January edition. I guess all those rumors of detente were just that! Is anyone else feeling a bit chilly today?

I've had a taste for Jamaican, maybe jerk, maybe other, the last week. I was considering KG for the saltfish and dumpling dish. If I go prior to Jan 7, I'll share any impressions. Jennifer's Edibles and Claire's Korner are slightly closer competing jerk options.

I hadn't seen anything recent on Kingston, and now I know why this source didn't pop up. The Reader doesn't put a date next to it, but there's a comment from February 2005, so things may have changed. Good for them though, I had no idea they were in business that long.

I checked to the see LTH North's lunch when I noticed that they were on the same day, but I realized that LTHN was lunching in Libertyville, so I doubt that there will be an overlap. But we can both post photos!

We mentioned that within the group when we decided on it. But with new ownership, we thought it deserved another look.

The question begs...have we ever seen Dave and Alfred E. Neuman in the same place at the same time?

And as far as 'rumored detente', Ron, in my eyes it's all good from an experiential standpoint. The periodic mixing of folks at these functions lends to different conversational topics, which is most welcome to me. I mean, how many times can we delve into Eddie K's driving habits? My act is becoming a little stale... :D

We ain't bonified card-carryers (except for Cathy, I think), but we're all people, aren't we?

Yes. And some of us are car guys, while others are terrified passengers.

I'm usually pretty laid back ( I have flown in single engine planes and gliders with no engines ) , but I suspect I would be a terrified passenger in your car.

Interesting thread folks, but so far only two of us are attending. Just wanted to bump the thread.
