    Hi,

China Kitchen (and at least three different ownerships) has come to a screeching halt.

Pasted on the window is a promise of Vietnamese food. I hope they are really good, because this is a new element around here.

Not yet ready for opening, but I will be keeping an eye on this.

    Regards,

    This makes 2 of us.
Plus about 10 more ppl I work with.

China Kitty (as we called it) fell far from our graces about a year ago.

Golden Star in Deerfield is under new mgt, and several office mates have deemed it our Chinese lunch replacement for China Kitchen. We all like pho and banh mi, and routinely order from Pho House, so Vietnamese a lil closer would be right up our alley.

I have a feeling several of us will try to order from there the first day it's open.
We cannot be friends if you do not know the difference between Mayo and Miracle Whip.

I've ordered delivery from here a few times in the past couple months and about 60% of what I ordered, I'd order again. It's not great by any means but it definitely scratches the itch.

Egg Foo Young, Fried Rice, Mongolian Beef, Moo Shu Pork and Chicken Broccoli are all right down the middle of the fairway. Chinese Yu Choy in Garlic Sauce is always 86'd (I get the feeling they don't actually have this) but I've really enjoyed the Stir Fried Shredded Cabbage, when prepped (by request) in the same manner. Another veggie dish we really enjoyed was the Stir Fried String Beans. One strange outlier, the Sliced Lamb in Pure Cumin Powder, is one of the most unusual takes I've ever encountered. Visually and texturally, it resembles what you might find on the inside of a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich (very thinly sliced lamb and translucent onions) but the flavor was definitely there. It immediately fell into my 'guilty pleasures' category.

If feasible, it's way better to call the restaurant directly than to order through a 3rd party. You get better service and can make requests that are just not possible with the 3rd party apps (e.g. the cabbage prep).

About November, 2017, it was acquired by a Burmese couple. They offered a very limited menu of about 10 Burmese dishes.

What used to be a bustling lunch hour there with people ordering and picking up food, became very slow. I once ordered some food, then sat there reading their magazines. A lady came up to assure my fish would be ready very soon. I looked up, then we both realized her comments were intended to someone who had left.

They just did not have the speed cooking skills to keep up with the dwindling number of orders. After a while, I never saw the crowd I once saw before.

I am really hoping there will be good Vietnamese nearby.
