    Hi all!

If you wish to make a dessert, great! Since we cannot share it, it is entirely optional whether you really made the cake or not.

If you wish to share pictures and the experience of a recently made dessert, great!

If you wish to discuss the world of cooking and baking highlighting things that went surprising well or did not, great!

Via Zoom, we have the ability to screen share to show the food we made or wish to make someday.

Even if the ban is lifted, we will stick to Zoom. I am not in the mood to clean house for your review. :D

I made puff pastry yesterday and will create something with it today.

Decided to make raspberry turnovers as I had some raspberry filling. Pastry turned out nice, but I probably overfilled. I sealed edges with a bit of egg white and crimped with the edge of a spoon - didn't work. I had made a smaller folded up tart with a bit of scrap; should have made them all like that. They were a bit underbaked. My youngest thought they were great the way they were, but I know better.

I made a copycat version of "From its" with the remaining puff pastry dough. Also undercooked, but tasty.

Today is only April 26th. I was thinking it was today. Oh well, will bake something again next weekend.

Hi! It's hard for me to join in from home during dinner, but I'd like to pop on and say hi if that's ok. I made glazed lemon yogurt cake and I might make katherine Hepburn's brownies today.

I agree with Laura that the 5 pm time on the virtual exchange is difficult since we aren't having dinner at the host's house. If this continues we may want to change the time to early afternoon or something like 7 pm.

Yes. I got myself confused last night. I sent the zoom message after midnight, but thought it was still Saturday. When I realized my mistake, I cleared it here. The DM had already been collected by someone, so it could not this week.

    Hi,

Edging the driveway is a stand of rhubarb. Last week, it was all scrunched up. After the rains earlier this week, there was an explosion of growth. I had more than enough for a pie. I chopped up what I needed immediately, then froze the rest on a cookie sheet and packed it up later.

It's been a long time since I made a rhubarb pie. The range of sugar called varied from 3/4 cup to 2 cups. I split the difference by using just a tad over one cup. I consulted a Rose Levy Beranbaum article for lattice rhubarb pie. I was not keen to make a lattice, so I used a star cookie cutter to emulate a lattice effect.

I did put some used parchment paper under to catch any drippings. Not only did it catch an overflow, the fluid got in between the crust and the pie plate. Removing caramelized crust edge was not especially easy.

Each serving looked like it had been in a knock down fight, so none are pictured.

We ate the pie in one seating. Everyone left the table with the expectation there will be another for Mother's Day next week.

    See you all soon!

    Regards,

    Cathly,

I contemplated making Edna Lewis' Rhubarb pie discussed on the NYT's Cooking site.

I loved everything about your pie pic down to the star cutouts for lattice and the fact that you picked it from your yard just before baking it.

    Thanks for hosting today.

And I am so, so sorry for the loss of Mrs. Fortuna. I know she was an additional Mum for you. You took such good care of her.
