So....apparently curating a dinner date in December for the minions doesn't preclude me from lunch duty. Please join the Usual Suspects for some top notch BBQ on the 10th. As always, bring a friend.

Sorry, too much BBQ lately, including 3 full grills of my own for Thanksgiving and leading a group for Korean in early January. -Carey

I wouldn't miss it especially since there will be visiting dignitaries from the Evanston Lunch Group in attendance.

Great food and company at today's gig. I managed to drip sauce on both my sweatshirt and jeans. As expected, my dog sniffed me suspiciously upon my arrival back home. Not sure what's going to happen when my wife gets home. 8)

Big Ed's has been consistently good-to-great in their (count 'em) 4 locations over the years. North Chicago, Libertyville, downtown Waukegan, and now this stand-alone in western Waukegan near 120 and Waukegan Rd.

Could not finish a half-slab of baby backs, each bone was like a mini-pork chop. All the requisite itches--bark, pull, moistness, BBQ sauce--were scratched. Homemade baked beans & cole slaw were as expected, great.

Nice seeing a couple of the Evanston lunch bunch card-carriers. Hope we didn't offend with our uncouth manners and occasional spouted oath. I can't take these guys anywhere...

It was great to see everyone again today, with the lively conversation covering topics like music venues, automobiles, etc.

This was my first time at Big Ed's. I thought the ribs were excellent. Even though my general preference is for a sauce-basted preparation rather than the dry rub used at Big Ed's, there was a lot to love about these. They were particularly meaty with very little fat; my half slab had about as much meat as many places provide in a full slab. Very tasty.

This is a place where you place your order at the counter, pay, and then go sit down. The orders were filled quickly, so there was very little waiting on that end. One caveat - I arrived around noon, and between then and roughly 12:45, virtually all of the tables were taken. So they're doing a good business (which is good for them and everyone!). If you want to be sure of seating availability, arrive before or after that time slot.

You will be surprised to know I am a card carrying Evanston lunch bunch carrier. I attended for years until my reason-to-be in the area faded away.

I am proud to be a card-carrying Evanston lunch group member also. I asked to be gerrymandered in a few years ago, just before, if I remember correctly, lunch (featuring a big plate of beef ribs) at L. Woods, and they were happy to oblige. I don't get out to either group's lunches as often as I would like, but I am glad to see the two groups sharing lunches together.

Frankly, I find this commingling of groups sickening. The next thing you know there will be intermarriages and the drinking of fluoridated water.

Let’s put a stop to this attack on purity and Make Eating Great Again. The first meeting of my group will be at oMEGA.

Is that oMEGA in Niles, territory of the LTH North Lunch Group, or oMEGA in Downers Grove, territory of the LTH West Lunch Group?

While you suburban lunch folk are burning internet trees down with your cutesy venn diaphragm [sic] of (distinction without a difference) groups the lead got buried. NSX seems to imply there is such a thing as sauce basted BBQ

Well, you're the so-called expert, so if you say there's no such thing as barbecue sauce, and no such thing as basting, then I guess it must be... true?

I'm not a so-called expert, I am an expert. And, of course, there is BBQ sauce and basting, but just because one bastes meat with BBQ sauce does Not make it BBQ.
