A buddy of mine swears by the fish fry at Rita's. I've never been here even though I've driven past this place a million times. 8)

There's an ancient post about Rita's here -http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=16652

Let's check it out on the 15th to see for ourselves. As always, bring a friend.

Why not, I'm in too, for this Lenten version of our klatch. Don't quote me on this, but I too have driven past a zillion times and am sure I've seen 'perch' on their signage and maybe 'blue gill' as well.

As the most recent person to comment on Rita's (in 2009!), I can still vouch for their fish fry. I told a friend of mine who's a great cook and loves good food about it a few months ago, and he's gone 6 or 7 times since then.

Once there's a relatively firm number of people going, I think it's really important to give them a heads up. The dining area is the size of a living room, with about 8 or 9 tables, plus there are seats at the bar.

    Hi,

I brought a friend who grew up in a farm in northern Lake County. Her family never went to restaurants, though they went to taverns. I brought her in and she was back in her childhood vibe. Unbelievably, she bumped into the sister of her sister's best friend whose family owned her parents' favorite watering hole.

She loved the experience of going to Rita's and came back soon after with her sisters.

I will be there ready to eat my fare share of fish!

    Regards,
    Cathy2

We can't count on her to support the rebellion anyway. Caesar's wife must be above suspicion.

No pics, but at a tiny-but-packed Rita's five of us enjoyed expertly fried perch and walleye, decent fries, tedious clam chowder and tasty navy bean soups. Cole slaw was fair-to-middling.

Guess I used up all my adjectives describing 'ordinary'. Quality was pretty good overall, but as per usual the conversation was anything but usual. Dead chefs & the usage of the word 'awesome' made the lunch memorable.

We "learned" there is a limited age range where one can use the word 'awesome.' All of us at the table were too old to be considered seriously.

Eddie Izzard explains the difference between the new and original meanings of "awesome." One is a hot dog; the other is a hundred billion hot dogs.
