Note - Date changed to the 21st.

Grumblings from the Minions reminded me to get my act together for this month. We're heading back up to Lake County to re-visit LTHNG favorite Lauretta's Italian Bake Shop & Cafe. Please join us on the 21st for some Italian delicacies for lunch and homemade cannoli for dessert. As always, bring a friend.

Hope to make it. Nice spot, good people, solid food. The owner's father used to run Two Guys From Italy up in Highwood.

Now that EC has used his powers benevolently, I will do my best to be there.

    Thank you!

Since the rebellious Minions will be attending, there could be fireworks. I'll be there.

Cant believe I have to bag out again. Hopefully when the smoke clears and the dust settles there will be a surviving group.

I was counting on you to taste my food due to the rumblings from the others.

Excellent lunch yesterday with a cozy foursome of EC Dave, Eddie, Katie & myself. Lauretta's owner Lori Wozniak was a gracious host and we all enjoyed ourselves. Spaghetti Bolognese was a highlight. It's a really solid place that may not be a destination but in the neighborhood one could do far worse. Living in Mundelein, I'm there at least once monthly.

Yes, both the food and company were quite good yesterday. I intentionally didn't step away from the table during the meal not knowing if a coup de grâce had been planned.

The coup d'etat will come before the coup de grâce. Don't worry --- you won't see either one coming.

I enjoyed our get-together very much; it was worth getting out just to talk with the LTH North Lunch Group again (and talk a little treason). The spaghetti bolognese looked very good; I wish I'd ordered that too. I wouldn't order the lasagna again; it was too loose, had an overly tomatoey, insufficiently meaty sauce, very little cheese, and meat of a certain pinkish hue that made me start worrying about eating it halfway through. The garlic bread was great. I don't think I'm the only one who was surprised by the price of a glass of house red. I was tempted to order the linguine special with clams or mussels in a white wine and garlic sauce; I'd still like to try that.

Yes, a wishful Freudian slip by the EC. Coup de grace would be Michael Corleone sitting down to finish his dinner after the coup d'etat of offing Sollozzo and McCluskey, which of course didn't happen in the movie. Alas, none of us were packing, not even Eddie, so EC lives to rule another month, in spite of him at least thinking 'I'm the hunted one!', a la Sollozzo.

The Bolognese is quite good--I know for a fact it's Lori's dad's recipe from his 34 years owning Two Guys From Italy in Highwood. Most other pastas are at least good, and the owners and waitstaff are all like family.
