jazzfood (Alan Lake) is going to be on an episode of "Unwrapped" in a segment called "Garlic Goodies." It's scheduled to air Saturday, 2/24, at 9:00 CST then again at noon on 2/25.

For some reason I can't get on the food network web site today but I've locked in the TIVO. I must say, "Unwrapped," is not the first show I thought I'd see jazzfood on.

Alan Lake aka Jazzfood aka Garlic Chef was terrific on Unwrapped, the man's a natural on TV, articulate and very relaxed.

I must say I was surprised in watching the rest of the episode to learn Cole's sold 19 gazillion loaves of ready to bake garlic bread each year. That's one of those things it would never occur to me to buy as it's so simple to make.

    Enjoy,

It is no surprise that Alan came off as a classy pro. What was surprising is I watched most of the rest of the show.

I always wonder how much Marc Sommers gets paid for hosting. It seems he could shoot a whole season in an afternoon. Maybe I'm just jealous.

I agree, the guy is just about unwatchable...to see him up against jazzfood's much more real-guy, credible and interesting persona convinced me again (like I needed more convincing) of the basic injustice of the universe.

thanks for the kind words my friends. i'll over look your natural bias. that show was taped oct 05. they were saving it for the all garlic themed shows they wanted to run, starting last pm. in fact, i just came back from judging this years competition this wk. it was moved to feb to avoid hurricane season.

johnny and i are anything but friends. in fact, he views me as his nemesis. i do not return the favor as i find it a waste of effort to be that negitive. he took over a position i left @ the sundy house in delray beach when i went to japan. seems he's had it in for me since. never could beat my #'s there either. for some reason, he questioned my ability to be impartial, as he lost. badly. that would be him projecting his character defect, not mine. in fact, i judged him a bit more leniently than the other hard ball judges, food writers and cec's all. him rolling his eyes was over the fact that he so ungraciously lost to me twice and there i was again, showing up to judge him. poor sport.

me being the secret judge was the whole premise as to why they flew me down to do it in the first place. surprise johnny. it was a great intro, that unfortunately they cut the majority of. i was hidden behind these huge security guards w/mystery ingrd. great entrance. his reaction shot loses a little w/o the set up though. he went on to cook food that was more style than substance (imagine that) something way too common in our business. it looked better than it tasted and talula blew him away in taste. in fact, they won again this yr defending their title (moonfish or opah was the ingrd). it will be interesting to see if they can pull off a threepeat. if so, i may have to come out of retirement. not.

again, thank you for the kind words.

your garlic chef (who's much happier back home in chi),
