Joel Findlay passing

Sad news in the Fox Valley, Joel Findlay, chef/owner of 302 West in Geneva passed away quietly at home. Joel had been battling liver cancer. All signs indicate that the restaurant will go on with Joel's wife and excellant staff carrying on.

Maybe that explains it. Last time I went, we took a couple of bottles of very nice wine (early 80's Bordeaux, I think) and they said they did not do corkage. We explained they were special wines and a special occasion, and they said that exceptions could be made, but only by the owner who was not there and not available. We ordered wine, but were a bit unhappy.

This is not a slam on the place - the position is not unreasonable, and I should have called first. Just a heads up. As to 302, I found the food quite good, but not as creative and luscious as in the past. Still, worth a visit without a doubt, and my disappointment may well have affected my palate.
