I know there are some people here that are not big fans of Nutrition Action Newsletter and CSPI. They consider them the food police. Michael Jacobson stepped down as the President of CSPI, and Peter Lurie now holds that job. I subscribe to Nutrition Action, and I really enjoy it. I just got the March issue a few days ago, and their cover story is about the EAT-Lancet Commission on Food, Planet and Health's new Planetary Health Diet. The article is not on their website, and so I can't give a link to it. They interview Walter Willett who used to be in charge of the nutrition department at Harvard, and who is the commission co-chair. The diet advocates more whole grains, more legumes and nuts, more healthy oils, more seafood, and less dairy, red meat, salt, and sugar. They also advocate more green energy such as wind and solar.
The article mentions the amount of greenhouse gases that are produced when we eat a kit if beef, lamb shellfish and pork. I did not know that shellfish produces a lot of greenhouse gases. What does everybody think of this? I know this is going to open up a can of worms. Hope this helps, Nancy
