It’s that time of year again, when the people of China unite in tearing apart exoskeletons to suck up the flesh of hairy crabs. From August to October, the crabs—which get their name from the hair-like tendrils that grow on their claws—sell like hotcakes throughout China.

Except, hotcakes don’t sell in vending machines. Live hairy crabs? Apparently, yes.

I love it! And I thought it was wild seeing ladies in Hong Kong slip crabs tied up with string into their purses to take home for dinner.

Really enjoyed this link, thanks for posting it.

Took time to read up a little further on these crabs and the lakes they come from. Really interesting. learned the Chinese dont like to band the claws on these crabs as they believe it changes the taste of the claw meat.

Japan has some wild vending machines too. Rice, eggs or puppies, what more could you want?
