Panera Bread WiFi

This morning I took to laptop and WiFi and surfed, Shannon style, at Panera Bread, which offers free WiFi. Just ok coffee, not so ok muffin top, but my table was comfortable, there were easy chairs available and, as I said, free WiFi.

I'm no Seth Z, LTH Tech Geek, but my laptop synced right up to Panera's system, and I was off and running in moments. A few weeks ago, in Shannon's WiFi thread, someone mentioned Goose Island has free WiFi as well, next time I need an alternate place to work that will be my choice. Good beer beats mediocre coffee any day of the week.

As a frequent user of Panera wi-fi (I'm at their Old Orchard location right now), keep in mind that many of their units are electrically challenged if you need to plug in your laptop to AC. Such as this one that has only three tables with outlets in reach (same as LaGrange.) Best seem to be Evanston (lots of outlets), Diversey, Niles, Elmwood Park, Park Ridge. Keep away from Wilmette, Winnetka and Lincoln Village; each has only one table where you can reach an outlet.

I know I wouldn't have this problem using Starbucks, but I believe wi-fi should be free at restaurants. BTW, other nice wi-fi locations are Argo Tea on Armitage and Westgate Cafe on Madison in the west Loop.
