If you haven't seen, there is a fine article on our rapidly expanding and diversifying Chinatown in the Trib today (at least on line). Included is a discussion of the problems Chicago's ethnically Chinese are having as they bump up against the proud but sometimes xenophobic neighborhood of Bridgeport. Ed's Potsticker House is noted as the victim of one incident, in particular. The article is an eye-opener in describing the revitalization and rapid expansion of the Chinese community in Chicago, Chinatown in particular. It goes a long way toward explaining why Chicago now has a surprisingly deep and wide Chinese food scene.

Also, I got a kick out of the Wall St. Journal's big piece today on Italian digestifs, amari. Antonius and I have discussed these bitter potions before. An acquired, inherited taste, but, apparently, now all the rage. Let the record reflect that I loved the stuff when the common wisdom was that it is all pretty nasty. (I don't see the fad taking off, actually.)

I think the piece in the online Trib is old: it sounds like one I mentioned in the Ed's Potsticker thread back in July.

In any event, I don't see anything about Chinatown in the paper edition of today's Tribune.

Jeff, I think we are in the vanguard of good taste.

But I hope the fad doesn't take off... The prices will just go up.

P.S. I'm going to have a Chinotto now in honour of bitterness.
