Hi- I was at Peet's in downtown Winnetka today, and I noticed a poster about a group of foodie people who meet in Evanston. I am not sure if they meet in restaurants or some where else to discuss food. It is a .org group that is sponsoring this. They listed the address of the website to get more information. Unfortunately I did not write down the web address. I know this is a long shot, but does anybody know the name of the group? Thanks, Nancy

No- It is not Edible Evanston which I am familiar with. Unfortunately I won't be in Winnetka for another two weeks, and the sign probably won't be there anymore. It was billed as a Chicago area foodie group that meets in Evanston. I am not sure if they meet in restaurants or in peoples homes or somewhere else. If somebody goes in Peets in Winnetka in the next few days, and wants to report back. Thanks, Nancy

Why not call Peets during a period you guestimate is non-peak to inquire? I am sure they want to help a customer.

Thinking that it couldn't be that hard to find a foodie group in Evanston, I did a quick search for "foodie group that meets in Evanston" -- and MeetUp lists dozens of groups, though it notes that it is including groups both in Evanston and within 25 miles of Evanston. Memberships range from 40 to a few thousand.

So not an easy answer, but maybe if you scan the page something will look familiar. (And it may not even be on the list -- but it is remarkable that there are so many groups dining in Evanston.)

    Hi,

I looked on meetup, too, plus facebook.

I think a phone call to Peet's will reap the information.

It definitely was not a meetup group. I belong to a meetup group in Evanston that has 300 members, and when we ate at Lou Malnati's on Sunday, exactly five people showed up. Some of the people that are members of this group, belong to 10 or more meetup groups. There is not enough time in the day for me to attend 10 meetup group meetings every month. I have to go to Northbrook this next Tuesday. Maybe I will stop at Peet's on my way home. The place gets really busy most of the day. When I left there at 4:00pm on Thursday, every table was taken. The only other competition is Starbuck's.

Hi- I hit it lucky, and I stopped in at Peet's on my way home from Northbrook, and the poster was still up. The name of the group is acrossthetable.org. It sounds like they meet once a month to eat dinner and discuss whatever topic is scheduled for that evening. There are ten people at each table, and it sounds like they meet in businesses, but not restaurants. One of their future gatherings is at Northwestern, and another one is at Booked on Main Street in Evanston. Dinner is a set price every month. The dinners seem to run around $30-35, and you have to reserve a spot ahead of time. I fon't know how interested I am, but some other people here might be.
