mushroom based packaging material

amazing stuff- those mushrooms. here's a video about a brilliant idea involving mycelium, thread like filaments that mushrooms use to gather nutrients. an engineer hopes to replace styrofoam (which makes up 25% of our landfill and takes thousands of years to deteriorate!) with the biodegradable packaging materials he and his team are growing in molds made from the same protein.
