Hi all. In case you didn't know, I am a food scientist that works for a small foodservice company in Glenview that produces fruit and juice products. Our first retail product that I developed is a line of soy smoothies called SoyBlendz. They are available in SuperTargets as well as Sunset Foods in Chicago, and they should be in a number of White Hen Pantries starting in March or April. Whole Soy-Fruit Smoothies Now Also Fortified with Calcium and Vitamin D

Glenview, Ill. (February 6, 2006)— Carbotrol Foods, the makers of SoyBlendz, announced today their move from glass to PET plastic bottles. The added benefits of plastic for retailers as well as consumers made the switch an easy decision for the minds at SoyBlendz.

SoyBlendz, which is available at SuperTarget Stores and finer food stores nationwide, is the first creamy non-dairy smoothie to deliver the perfect blend of flavor and nutrition. SoyBlendz’ smoothies use the whole soybean, not a “protein isolate,” to capture all of soy’s nutritional benefits, which are known to help reduce the risk of breast cancer, prostate cancer, and heart disease.

“The decision to move from glass to plastic was in response to our retailers need for an easier product to bring in and shelve up,” says SoyBlendz President Gregory Lojkutz. “With this new packaging we are filling a need in the industry for an easier and more transferable unit, while still keeping our dedication to providing the best-tasting, nutritionally-sound products in the industry.”

The new and improved plastic bottles will have more impact resistance and durability than the former glass bottles ensuring less breakage and a lighter load. Moving to plastic also reduced the case weight by roughly 25%.

Along with the new packaging, SoyBlendz smoothies are now fortified with calcium and vitamin D, producing the same nutritional level as whole milk. Whether you’re a parent, student or working professional, packing those extra nutrients in your purse, backpack or briefcase has never been easier.
