Much more detailed and stringent requirements than the Chopped Home Cook application -- they want you to be able to drop your daily commitments for 9 weeks. Deal breaker, probably. Much as my boss is flexible, there's limits.

Yeah, seems like one has to be a seriously dedicated wannabe to make this happen.

    Hi,

If you win, it is well worth the effort: cash prize I believe is $250,000, a cookbook contract and a lot of interesting experiences.

Certainly true. I'm just loathing Reality TV these days.

I've come to like Masterchef - they actually show cooking and food for most of the hour which is refreshing given the dramarama of so many shows these days.

Have one friend who's a good candidate - will pass this along to him.

A friend of mine, Marie Porter, from Minnesota, will be on this show -- which apparently starts tomorrow night. One of the few situations in which I regret not having a TV. She's a hoot -- and I know she's great with pastry. Even not getting to see her, it's fun knowing someone on the show.

You can always stream it online - I think Itunes usually carries Masterchef with episodes one day after they air. Google may do the same and it's possible it's on the uverse site as a free show.

Thanks for the tip, Siun. I'll check that out.

For those who might be interested, here's a post from Marie about how she prepared for MC -- and insights a memories from a contestant from season 2.

More on Marie -- from a Canadian paper, as she's the first Canadian on the show. Having Asperger's meant she had to prepare in a slightly different way from some other competitors.

The dish with which she auditioned was a mango mojito upside down cake.

Fun to have someone to root for.
