Good point. Lists can be great if you know the list maker's work and find from experience that you agree with it. In that regard, a list maker is no different from any other critic. On the other hand, sloppy list making is a waste of time and energy. I'm not pointing the finger at the person who began this thread, but at a great many media outlets for whom Top Ten Lists are empty-headed filler put together by whoever happens to be sitting around the office at that moment. When someone starts touting a Top Ten Lists web site then exhibits sloppy workmanship, it's easy to conclude the worst.
Piling on isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes it's deserved.
