Mollie Katzen, would you like to meet her?

I have appreciated the good advice of the forum users here and would like to ask your opinion again. Mollie Katzen is going to be here during Chicago Ideas week in October, and we were asked if we would like to host her for one of our Spice House events. She has more than 6 million books in print, including the Moosewood cookbook. Her new book just about to come out is The Heart of the Plate, Vegetarian Recipes for a New Generation. I am very excited by this opportunity but surprised to find my staff (young people, mostly) were not familiar with her. Would it be of interest to you to hear this author speak and sample tastings from her new book?

absolutely. the moosewood cookbooks were very influential to many, many people in my generation. we should know our history, whether it's politics or food and continue to add to our cookbook collections- not replacing old ones with the new. there is no such thing as an outdated cookbook. yes, there are bad cookbooks, but good ones never get old. your staff will definitely benefit when they learn about katzen's books. the typography and drawings in the moosewood books are absolutely unforgettable and extremely appealing.

I think there would be a good sized audience for her. Like Joan said she was certainly an influence, I remember my mom's friends getting this cookbook and passing it around. I'd certainly try to see her.

Huge fan, here. Must have have the first edition. Why she ever changed the carrot soup recipe in the second edition is a mystery to me!!!!! Just browsed the second edition today over lunch at the library. I love the hand printing! Just a gem of a cookbook. Should be in everyone's collection--a classic for sure (first ed.). Joan, wouldn't it be fun to have a get together with recipes from the first edition???

I would, too. I have a couple Moosewood cookbooks from back in the day--just went looking for Vegetable Heaven, too (must have loaned it to someone).

I have a ton of business travel in October but if in town, I'd be a definite yes to coming to see her!

Would love to meet Katzen. Still use my Moosewood on occasion--she has an always reliable vegetarian lasagna that I make. It's one of my standby choices for bringing to friends or neighbors after a new baby or a death in the family.
