    Hi,

The officiant extracted quotes from quite a bit written here plus from family, friends and the Sauganash Chamber of Commerce. He commented on Steve's participation in the GNR, then reversed the letters to have a new meaning: Really Nice Guy.

One interesting detail: at the intersection of Peterson and Pulaski there is a blue light highlighting the industrial park there. This light was Steve's initiative.

Maybe someone who lives nearby would take a picture of this light? :D

    Regards,

Just found this sad thread. Was very sorry to hear about Steve. Although we only met a few times it always seemed we had a lot in common. I always enjoyed his posts(and thread titles!) And almost always found myself on the same page as far as food was concerned. In the back of my mind I had always intended to try to set up a dinner at some point in the future so I could get to know him better . We had even discussed that on occasion. Sadly, never happened.
Perhaps yet another reminder about why it's often a good idea not to wait too long on things...

I too have been reading with sadness many people's tributes to and remembrances of Steve. He seemed to me to be a kind and gentle person, and so I was always glad to have the opportunity to sit near him at a lunch or dinner. I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Eat dessert 1st. No guarantees. And, if your meal isn't up to standards, have another aka "pulling a kuhdo". Betting Steve would approve.

    Oh dear.
I haven't logged into LTHF in a while.
I mourn SteveZ's passing. I did not know about his health.
I will look through my photographs (I am at the public library on my Windows® 8.1 laptop. My photos are on the home desktop Windows® 7 computer.) for the ones I took at LTH GNR awards dinners.
My condolences to all his relatives.

As it is my slight preference to not take photographs of people, my images are mostly of the food at LTH events. I state this because I turned up one blurry image of SteveZ from the LTH Holiday Party 2017.

This is Michael Zaransky, Steve's very proud brother. I want to express my sincere appreciation, on behalf of our family, for the outpouring of support from the LTH community. The LTH community is a special group that was near and dear to Steve's heart, and an important part of his life, for so many years. The shared experiences and the friendships formed (his best friends in life) were wonderful to see and the community that you have created is enviable. We will miss Steve deeply and still feel the grief and pain of his loss. The loss is deeper and hurts more when someone so special, who touched so many, leaves us. I guess we should be grateful that he will be so deeply missed by so many. Your postings and tributes have been a great source of inspiration and have helped make a terrible situation less bad. We take great pride in all that you have said and felt about Steve and we appreciate your support more than we can ever express in words.

Just told my wife what you wrote. Her response? "It's a testament to him, not us. How could you know him and not love him?"

Hadn't been here in a few weeks and just saw the news. I only met Steve a couple of times, but we had shared experiences of that stretch Dempster Street between McCormick and the Edens, him for most of his life and me for the years between 1985-1994 when I worked in Evanston and still lived in Wilmette. So I always read his posts with a little more care.

    May his memory be eternal.

SteveZ was a wonderful person to know: generous, funny, and the sort of person whose friendship made your life and your stomach equally full and happy. I will raise a glass to his memory tonight.

Shocked. Only met Steve a few times, mostly at LTH lunches or events, and he was always welcoming & inclusive. I will miss that dude.

Steve's family arranged for a memorial bench near North and Clark, where Steve grew up. It was recently dedicated . . .

    RIP, friend

We're planning a memorial event for Steve in late February, most likely on his birthday, which is February 26. Details to follow in a couple of weeks.
