My book club occasionally meets at a BYO restaurant rather than someone's home. We frequently have ended up at Cafe Furaibo on Lincoln. Furaibo is decent, although we've had some extremely pokey service. They are closed for vacation right now, so we ended up at Kai Sushi on Southport last night. Attentive, prompt service and really good rolls. The two highlights were the Dynamite (shrimp tempura and avocado topped with seared scallop) and the Chicago Cubs (tuna, albacore, salmon, jalapeno and avocado rolled with fried shallots.) This group is not one to order sushi or sashimi so I have no input there. I'm looking forward to returning to try more of the menu.

This subject came up again last night, especially with Naoki closure, and weird new Lincoln Hotel suite quick omakase. Thoughts lately?

I've had sushi by bou, which is what you are essentially referring to. For the price, it's good quality. When are those opening anyway?

Sushi Suite 202 in the Hotel Lincoln appears open. Reservations are up on OpenTable but they are full price and non-refundable..... I'll await for some reviews but I don't really enjoy booking the unknown six weeks out with no flexibility. I have kids and plans seem to change more these days. I'll schlep to Kyoten for my next Omakase fix!

PS: While Naoki was not perfect and a bit on the expensive side, it was a nice takeout option for a fancy night in. I already miss it.
