I finally made it back to Toons this weekend with a friend visiting from out of town. We had a great meal and my earlier negative opinion has totally changed. Friendly and competent service, plus a great neighborhood vibe overall.
We split a large order of wings - half buffalo and half Korean. They were superb, crisply fried and juicy. I can't remember the last time I had such a great chicken wing. The buffalo sauce was well balanced with just enough heat, acid and richness, with some kind of background warm spice I couldn't identify, maybe a touch of nutmeg? The Korean sauce tasted very gochujang-heavy which I liked a lot. Better and more unique than the usual "Asian" sauce option at wing joints which tends to be a generic teriyaki type dressing.
Danny thanks for making the offer but I would have felt bad taking you up on it. We just walked in incognito and had a great experience.
