Drove by on Tuesday evening coming back from the Toys R Us.

Line was out the door and the little parking area was full.
One Mint Julep was the cause of it all.

There was a review of Fatburger in the Tribune the other day. Read it here.

The guy got a Kingburger combo that was around $15.00?!! That said, I like Fatburger, and I hope they open on the North shore.

As far as Culver's goes, they got rid of their best burger - the Jumbo. It was like a Whopper but thicker. (I bet I could ask for one and still get it) The regular burgers are still really good (not as good as Steak N Shake), and I still like Culver's a lot. Love the custard. Order the fries extra crispy every time!

It sounds like it's a heart attack waiting to happen but I'm going to have to try it one day. I love Kanye!

With that $15 price tag... onion rings, cheese, the bacon and the egg are all "upgrade" expenses. Once you take out the $4 to $4.50 for those and the Chicago tax on it all... it's not quite as bad.

When the husband and I hit the Fatburger in Vegas the order is usually two burgers both with an additional egg, split a chili cheese fries and two drinks. At Culvers, it's two burgers, split a chili cheese fries and two shakes, and it's about about two bucks less than Faturbuger (and I have yet to be impressed by their shakes, Culvers wins that hands down even over Steak-N-Shake).

If I am going to pay that much, I'd rather stick with a local place like Top Notch.

I never had to pay that much for Fatburger myself (I too had it often in Vegas - they have one in the Texas Station Hotel Casino, right on the floor open 24 hours. I was playing blackjack with a huge shake on the table and everyone was saying "Where did you get THAT?! I want one!" ). But $15.00 is a joke for ANY combo meal - it's even more than food at the movie theater and NOTHING costs more than a popcorn and a pop at the theater! It costs so much, they don't even list the price on the menu at the theater for the combos!

This is my opinion of Fatburger. Only go here if you have a fat wallet! There burgers are absolutely horrible! I had the regular fatburger without cheese (I didn't feel like paying an extra dollar for a slice of cheese), a drink and a fry. My 2 daughters each had the smallest burger (I figures it would be around the size of a McDonalds burger), with cheese. My burger was overcooked, dry and crumbly. My kids burger meat was about the size of a silver dollar or half the size of a McDonald burger. Damage was about $22.00, 1 still hungry adult and 2 unhappy kids! I don't see this joint lasting, especially in today's economy. My kidds burgers alone we're $2.99 and don't forget the cheese for an extra $1.00. For that price, I'll take my kids to McDonald's where they can each have 4 cheeseburgers for the price of 1 Forget it Burger...I mean Fatburger.

I had my inaugural visit to this chain today. I accidentally came upon it while cruising the vast wasteland of LaGrange Road in Orland Park. The part that caught my eye was the (I think) $1.99 special for a medium Fatburger when you order a fries and a drink at the regular price. The total bill was just under $7. Compared to the regular prices on the menu board, it seemed like a good deal.

The burger was OK at best. Nothing special. It was served hot along with the steak fries. The place was practically empty at 12:15 - just me and two other tables were occupied during my leisurely 30 minute lunch. Would I come back here at the regular menu prices? Nope.

I happened to pass Fatburger the other day so decided I might as well give it a try. In a word: disappointing. I ordered a large (8 ounces; $5.81 with tax) with everything except mayo.

The way the burger was presented, pretty much all I could see was lettuce. That was no illusion; pretty much all I could taste was ice-cold iceberg. I actually had to check to see if they had forgotten the condiments. The eye said they were there but the tongue wasn't so sure.

Half way through it was still lettuce and more lettuce ("garden-ripe lettuce" the placemat assured me). The overcooked-to-dryness patty contributed little flavor. In fact the whole sandwich was remarkably devoid of taste. As I finished my salad-on-a-bun I became mad at myself for not going to Top Notch, only a few blocks away.

I drive by the FatWalletBurger in Orland Park every day. I drive by between 1 and 1:30 and then again after 6pm. It's rare that I see more than 1 or 2 people in there. We do have Schoops, Five Guy and Red Robin all within 3 blocks.. These establishments are always packed. Say what you want about FatWalletBurger, but I don't think it'll be around much longer.

This was nothing like the burger I had at the Orland Park location.

Double-king-chili-cheese with an egg as mentioned in the movie Shade :)

Everything was in a correct balance. Beef juicy with a nice crust and a good cheese flavor shining through. Sloppy though.

I will agree that it was a tad pricey but I have placed it near the top end. It will never be as good as Top Notch though. :)

EvilUS, I'm gonna let you finish but doesn't Kanye West own the Fatburgers in Chicago? I think the'll be around.

Kanye does own the FatBurger, but as everyone knows, if you don't look after or take care of your baby, it will eventually die. Problem is , is that I don't think Kanye is the father, so why take care of it. Sorry I put it that way but I just don't see anyone caring about this establishment in Orland Park.

I do think that Kanye is at least an uncle. :) I have heard that he was instrumental in bringing the this west coast chain to the Midwest.

Also was mentioned that there is Schoops, Five Guys and Red Robin nearby which does give the burger lover many choices. When I visited I did bring along some locals and they were put off by the price and did not think they would return. The loud Hip Hop music also had it's effect on their opinion.

The place was far from busy but at least they cook the burgers to order so they were fresh.

I haven't been to the Schoops in the mall but I have heard that it is not as good as the stores in Indiana and Red Robin as a whole has not garnered much praise on this forum.

Results are mixed as to Five Guys.

In my opinion I would think most of the area locals would be heading over to Schoops or Five Guys for the simpler and cheaper offerings however good I think Fatburger is.

    I'll give it another year.

Well. Fatburger has bit the dust. I read earlier in the post that someone doubted my prediction that it wouldn't be around long. I wasn't talking about the one in Beverly. That one probably would do well based on it's location...close to the Evergreen Plaza and east 95th street being a straight shot there. Sorry, but in my opinion, the one in Orland Park was God Awful! I did, by the way, give it a second chance, only because they were giving away free burgers at the Orland Park Youth Softball Tournament 2 summers ago. Still the same. Way too dry and expensive.
