As noted in the LTH Events page - the BFM Wheeling branch has finally opened.

BFM in Des Plaines get a whole lotta LTH Love here - viewtopic.php?f=14&t=37017&start=180

The Des Plaines location started out a fish market that eventually morphed into a restaurant. In contrast, Wheeling is an actual restaurant that happens to have a fish market. The Wheeling location is huge and was formerly Pete Miller's Steak & Seafood.

The menu in Wheeling appears to be identical to Des Plaines. It's also printed on both sides of an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper. Louie was in the house when I had lunch there on Friday. Plenty of friendly servers and staff roaming the dining rooms. There's a large bar area with TVs. The restaurant was not overly crowded. The obligatory garlic bread was served before my fish and chips arrived. My server indicated that they're doing a brisk dinner business, especially over the weekend. Spiffy bathrooms too.

It's a great relief to finally have a decent seafood restaurant near my home. I miss the good ol' days when Shrimp Walk (RIP) and Shaw's in Deerfield were in my local dining rotation. As you-know-who says - Boston Fish Market Wheeling - count me a fan!

Thanks, Dave, for starting a new thread. I'm excited to try this place out. Hopefully, soon . . .

As much as I love the Des Plaines location, I'm going to wait a bit before I go to Wheeling. Reliable family members who have already visited claim that the food is excellent, whereas, the front-of-the-house is a horror show... FWIW, The general consensus amongst Yelpers (i know...) echo the same sentiment.

Lunch today. Service impeccable, tip-top, we simply had to look in the direction of our server and he was on-the-spot with lemon, water refill, hot sauce, a smile. Food, two of us split calamari salad (huge, tasty) halibut Vesuvio (delicious, huge) and a bowl of clam chowder (tasty)

New Wheeling restaurant is huge, big bar, two fresh fish counters, open kitchen, multiple dining options from high-tops by the fish counter, reminiscent of the original location, a casual dining room, bar and a more formal seating area. The place is huge, the menu is huge, the theme seems to be huge done well.

I bough fresh fish from the huge* gleaming fresh selection to make for dinner.

If I had to nitpick: there are no lunch specials if one went solo it would either be an expensive lunch with leftovers or sandwich.

Boston Fish Market, Count me a Fan!

Gary, the LTH North Lunch we had at the new Boston Fish Market a couple months back included a Zuppa di Pesce for $52.99, pricey but I swear it could have easily fed 4-6 hungry people all by itself. The dish was close to two feet long, just overflowing with all kinds of shellfish and seafood. And Cathy took home the broth at the end to serve with pasta.

Most expensive item on the menu but the best value as well. So yes, BFM is best with a group.

The Wheeling location is still chugging along nicely. FOH is running smoothly. First come first served and you won't get seated until your full party has arrived.

I took some BFM newbies over there on Thursday night. No wait for a table at 6:30. Louie was all spiffed up in a sport coat and slacks and the menu is now plasticized.

No need to rehash about the food. All good.

Tried this for the first time over the weekend. got there 5:30 on Friday and got a table outside right away. Had the blue crab claw appetizer, it was really good. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of the meal. I tried the Hallibut Oscar, it was pretty gross. Not sure why I tried it, but never again. Wife had the fish and chips and the grouper lacked any crispiness. Fish was high quality, but they did a lousy job frying it.

I'd go back and give it another try and get some different things, but first impression was not good.

Been to Wheeling for lunch 5,6, 7, times since it's opened. Went today.
New to me is a NEW lunch menu. New menu insert. I highly suggest to check it out if you are a BFM fan. HIGHLY.

Went with 3 other office mates who are the sames ones I go there with normally. All three said it was a borderline bargain.

    One had the steak/shrimp combo

One went with chowder and oysters (regular lunch menu - he's a creature of habit, HOWEVER, he admitted that next time, he'd be ordering off the new menu when he saw our plates)

One had a fried cod plate.

Yours truly had the 8-10oz grilled orange roughy, rice, grilled veggie plate (13.99.) A STEAL, imo. We were debating the entire ride back to the office if that's now easily once a week. For the quality, it's way up there for those prices.

Anyone know what their current status is? A friend's been picking fish up there regularly to cook at home but arrived to find them closed today, even though signs taped to the doors indicated that they'd arrived during hours when they were supposed to be open. A phone call just rang and rang without an answer or going to voicemail. Google seems to think they're open but it seems their information might not be up to date.

    Thanks,

Could be due to today being Greek Easter Monday, though odd no sign to that effect.

Your profit margin on that call is obscene. You know, we know you didn’t use a pay phone.

Assuming it took 1 minute total to get the number and complete the call, it's only $15/hour. Time is money.

As you have never before charged us for the time taken to post here, I find your argument specious. Particularly as you billed us in dollars, not utils.

Last I checked, payphones were charging $0.50. That was years ago, though. Now, it would be a challenge to even find a payphone to check the going rate.

I didn't suggest he include the time it took to post as part of the total. Posting here is like billing. You don't bill for the time spent billing.

There are no pay phones anymore, so the call in question did not incur any pay phone charges. In any case, in almost all cases today the incremental cost of a call is zero.

"I remember pay phones, and phones with dials on them!"
"I don't, but I remember when all phones were connected to the wall with wires!"
"I don't, but I remember when people worried about how much they would be charged for each call on their cell phone!"
    "Seriously?"
